Introduction

Have you been in a situation where you are craving bananas, but the only things left in the fridge are tomatoes and carrots and you are also a duck that can't swim and dies when it touches the water?  If so, search no more, I've got the perfect game that realistically simulates your troubled situation. With Banana Duck, you will experience the sweet taste of pursuing bananas and avoiding all the evil vegetables and saw blades that are there for absolutely no reason. Enjoy!

Don't forget to share your final stats. I'm curious what is the lowest number of jumps any of you will get. Have fun!

Ok no! this is not fair! Its The Second time I've been rickrolled by your game!

good game though...

Sorry I couldn't resist...

do you know if there's a walkthrough with all crowns at all?

I'm not sure, but you can check the videos in the comments. Good luck!

This would be super fun to speed run if I had the time to learn how. Either way, very fun. Reminds me of Duck Game by Goodgis or the Dadish series.

I really enjoyed playing Dadish (I believe Dadish took some inspiration from catbird which I also enjoyed a while back). I knew I would eventually make something a little similar, and yes I was inspired to use a grid for the background because of some videos from Goodgis. I'm glad you enjoyed my tiny game!

I managed to find all the crowns except the one on level 11. Can you please give me a clue

You can see it but it isn't there...

i aspire to make a game as cozy and polished and simple yet engaging as this one day <3

(+1)

You can do it. It takes time, but it's totally doable. Keep learning!

thanks! I just keep making games and pushing myself. I learn something new with each project! :)

26 minutes I played
cute and fun game

what a great adventure!!!

Thanks for playing!

Is there a crown in level III and IV? I can't find it...

There is a crown in the first 11 levels. I can assure you. I won't spoil it for you though, keep digging.

(+1)

Ok, I'll try :)

(1 edit)

Where's the crown for level IX and XI?

somewhere ;)

May I please have a hint? I'm only missing these two crowns, and I've been looking for them for like an hour.

(+1)

Fair enough, here you go:

IX: add a jump

XI: skip a jump

(1 edit) (+1)

I found them now. Thanks :3

good game

(+1)

I've included Banana Duck in my LRJ video @ 1:26:09

(+1)

I really enjoyed the video. I see you are really good at playing platformers. I tried to lower the difficulty a bit so most people can play, but you made it look easy. Please keep uploading great videos like these!

it crashed with a bluescreen (in the game) with the message it can't find the die sound

which operation system are you on?

(+1)

:)

;)

(+2)

Im a duck, why do i die on water?

(+2)

You are not a regular duck. You are banana duck.

Makes sense

(+1)

Very cool game! In a GBA it would be really fantastic!!

(+1)

Thanks! What's a GBA? (mind my unfamiliarity with these technologies, because I have never used or seen one in my life)

(+3)

Game Boy / Game Boy Color / Game Boy Advance

(+3)

nice level design...very cool game

(+2)

really nice game, the only thing i noticed is that when you reset shortly afer you die the game crashes

(+1)

1) If you pause and restart just before you die, the game would still work for a short time, and you are likely to die and the death will count.

2) If you die, then quickly pause and restart (which makes no sense, and needs you to be really fast, less than half a second), the game would crash as you say.

Thanks for pointing that out, and thank you for playing <3

(+3)

Very Good, and Polished Game. I Love'it.

(+2)

i like bananas :)

(+3)

very cool i love it

Spent some time optimizing the jump count as much as I could, not sure if better than this is possible! 117 jumps in 4:44.00

That's insane! I see so many smart moves that I didn't notice when I was making the game. I believe the game needs a scoreboard on a site like speedrun.com with a category for jumps and this run ranked as #1. Well played!

Love this! Really great game, thanks for making it :

Thanks for the nice words. I really enjoyed your video, keep making new videos please! I literally forgot to change the window name when I was exporting the game. As for variations, the game was made for a gamejam in a week, and I couldn't come up with enough mechanics nor make the necessary art for any other stages though I was planning to. Level design was way more work than I initially anticipated. It's also worth noting that the music is a royalty free track from Michael Grubb that you can find here: https://uppbeat.io/track/michael-grubb/floating-cat

However, I do plan to expand on this project and make a complete game for desktop and mobile with enough variations, completely new levels as I feel the current ones has a bit too harsh and unforgiving difficulty, new mechanics, and probably original music. Sorry if this message was a bit long. Have wonderful day!

Awesome game! made a account on itch.io just to say it <3

That's really nice of you! I hope you have an amazing day as well!

(+2)

This is computer art :)

(+1)

What do you mean computer art? I placed each pixel manually from the prototype and concept art while planning the idea when the gamejam began, to the very final touches and all aspects of the game. I was even recording a small footage of prototype art because I'm planning to make a youtube video, but I'm too lazy to finish it, or even start making it in the first place lol.

Sounds & graphics are very pleasant to me, also the checkpoint system is very well. Its a classical game but also innovative by redesign things we could have seen in a Wario game. Also the progression persistance in the browser is a very good idea!

Just a ting for a future update:  mapping the Q key to LEFT would make the game AZERTY compliant

(+1)

Thanks for the info! I will keep that in mind when I'm working on the finished game.

Thanks for playing!

(+1)

So cute! The duck kinda reminds me of Ducky Momo lol. And the puzzles are delightfully challenging <3

:( My game wont load :(

Can you share the error message?

Its just stuck on the downloading screen

I would suggest trying another web browser as it seems that your browser is restricting access to web storage or something like that. If you are on windows, you can try using Edge. Sorry for any inconveniences.

(+1)

This is a great game, I really enjoyed it, thanks!

We don't say that word here so not to spoil the surprise for others. Thanks for playing. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I hope you don't get annoyed because I will delete the comment for *secret* purposes ;)

I intended to make Tomato evil, but is he really that evil? He deserves some love too I believe. Thanks for playing!

(+1)

This was a good game, and you should be proud. 😊

(+1)

Enjoyed the game! It was a pleasant surprise and experience. Hate tomato tho

(+1)

It was a solid action game despite the low resolution, and the gentle music and the loose faces of the tomatoes and carrots made it very soothing.

I noticed the crowns after playing a few stages and did my best to collect them from there!

Love the duck :) 10/10

(+2)

The duck loved you too <3

(+1)

That is a really cool game! Very cozy and cute. I love the music and art style :)

(+1)

Great game! So many neat mechanics. I really like the balloons, way cooler idea than just having a falling platform.

What palette is this? I like the choice of colours.

(+1)

It's Endesga16 slightly modified to add another brown and pure black for the outlines.  I've actually linked it the game itself under "credits/other/Endesga"

You can found it here: https://lospec.com/palette-list/endesga-16

If you use Aseprite, it comes pre-installed among the default palettes.

Good Luck!

Wow I love your game. The artstyle is cute, the gameplay is perfectly timed and the movement is extremely accurate. I'm sure we'll see Banana Duck at some jam recaps on youtube.

Good work sir!

My game is not as slick as yours but maybe you give it a try.

Wll.Jmp

Have a nice day and keep rockin'

Thank you for your kind words and I'm really happy that you found the game enjoyable. Good luck with yours as well!
